stories. Our patients are our inspiration.
On September 30th 2015, after years of being overweight, I had my gastric bypass surgery. The recovery time was brief and I was back to normal activity in about one week. The liquid diet took some getting used to, but I grew fond of diet Popsicles and the homemade chicken broth my wife made from scratch. Moving on to the next phase the cream soup was a treat, and I found that creamy peanut butter was a good source of protein.
In November I suffered the only real setback when I allowed myself to get dehydrated and wound up hospitalized. Let this be a lesson, always drink plenty of fluids whether you feel like it or not!. Anyway, for me, the weight fell off fast over the first five months. I was losing about 15-20 pounds a month. There were plateaus though, but this is normal and you have to keep from getting discouraged, and my weight would slowly start dropping again.
The greatest thing to me was the clothes. Family, friends, and friends of friends gave me some very nice clothes. I didn’t want to buy any new clothes until I met my goal weight. I received so much kindness and many designer hand me downs. Another great thing is the difference in the way people treat you. I had been fat so long I never thought a lady would ever want to sit next to me and speak to me but now it happens! Woman flirt with me, but I am quick to tell them I’m happily married to my best friend.
To date I have lost close to 155 pounds in 9.5 months. I went from a size 56 pants to a size 40. I can buy (if I need to which don’t ) clothes at Wal Mart or any other store now. I don’t have to shop from the King Size catalog any more. I save money on food and best of all I don’t get exhausted walking in the store. I had to use the electric scooters at SAMs Club, but now I can walk on my own.
My life is entirely different, I wish I had done this twenty years ago. Why did I allow myself to suffer being overweight for so long? My family and friends love the new me and so do I.
If you are tired of hurting and carrying around the body weight of an entire other person, tired of getting winded walking 50 feet to the mail box, tired of not being able to fit in that nice pair of pants off of the rack and having to go to the big and tall shops with their limited selection…. don’t wait any longer! Make a life changing decision and call Dr Moore to start your new life today – I promise you won’t be sorry when it’s done.

I'm 5 years out from my surgery and have never looked back. My only regret was that I didn't have the surgery sooner.
