Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty is a non-surgical weight loss procedure that is commonly referred to as ESG and also known as the incisionless gastric sleeve or the accordion procedure.
How Does Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) Work?
ESG is performed endoscopically, which means that the stomach is accessed through the mouth using an endoscope. No external incisions or suturing are needed for this procedure. The endoscope has a camera and Dr. Moore uses an endoscopic suturing device to reduce the size of the stomach. No portion of the stomach is removed, it is simply sutured to reduce the usable space in the stomach so that it has a smaller volume capacity. Patients are able to lose weight because they they feel full faster and are limited in the amount of food they can eat.
What Are The Benefits of ESG?*
- Incisionless – There are no incisions and no visible scarring
- Minimally Invasive – No organs are removed or re-routed
- Effective Weight Loss – Patients lose, on average, 54% of excess body weight1
- Quick Recovery – Many patients are able to resume regular activity within 1 to 2 days
What Kind of Results Can I Expect with ESG?
Studies have shown that ESG patients lose, on average, 54% of excess body weight. ESG may also help patients who are suffering from obesity related conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea2. ESG is an effective tool for weight loss for patients who are motivated to maintain weight loss and live a more active life. Patients who are committed to healthy lifestyle changes will see the best results.
Wondering if ESG is Right for You?
ESG may be an option for some patients who are not qualified for other bariatric surgeries, and those who are interested in non-surgical weight loss procedures. The ideal candidate for ESG has a BMI of 30 or above and has tried to lose weight through diet and exercise, but has not been able to achieve or maintain weight loss success through traditional methods.
