Reclaim a Healthier Weight with a Gastric Sleeve
The Gastric Sleeve (also commonly referred to as the “Sleeve”) is a bariatric surgery in which about 80% of the stomach is removed.
How Does the Gastric Sleeve Work?
The Gastric Sleeve is an in-patient procedure during which Dr. Moore will remove a large portion of your stomach, leaving you with a much smaller “banana” shaped stomach. The Gastric Sleeve procedure causes weight loss in part due to restrictive factors (i.e. a smaller stomach), however recent evidence also suggests that weight loss and health improvements result from metabolic factors such as hormonal changes, which are evident soon after surgery.
Dr. Moore performs the Gastric Sleeve procedure using a minimally invasive laparoscopic technique through small incisions in your abdomen. A tiny camera and video monitor attached to the end of long-handled instruments guide her as she operates. *This method is advantageous because it results in a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, smaller scars and less pain than traditional “open” bariatric surgery. *Results May Vary
*What Are the Benefits of Gastric Sleeve?
The most significant benefit of the Gastric Sleeve procedure is the improvement, and in some cases resolution, of obesity-related diseases. Health conditions related to obesity which are dramatically improved by the Gastric Sleeve procedure include Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension and high cholesterol.
You will also experience significant weight loss and improved quality of life as a result of undergoing bariatric surgery. *Results May Vary
*What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
Studies have shown that patients lost an average of 66% of their excess body weight and approximately 70% of patients experienced improvement or total remission of their Type 2 diabetes following their Gastric Sleeve procedures. Significant improvements were also seen in hypertension, hyperlipidemia, sleep apnea and joint pain.*
As with any weight loss surgery or weight loss treatment plan, your results will depend greatly upon how well you adopt and commit yourself to a healthier lifestyle consisting of changes to the way you eat and following a plan for moderate exercise. *Results May Vary
Robotic-Assisted Gastric Sleeve
Dr. Moore also has the ability to perform the Gastric Sleeve procedure using the da Vinci® Surgical System. The procedure is performed through a few small incisions in your abdomen, similar to traditional laparoscopy, however the da Vinci® System provides her with a 3D HD view inside your body. The da Vinci® System has special wristed instruments that bend and rotate to far greater degrees than the human wrist, enabling Dr. Moore to operate with enhanced vision, precision and control.
When you come in for your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Moore, be sure to ask her if you are a candidate for the robotic-assisted Gastric Sleeve.
